+/// Accumulates raw values and serialized TDigests into primitive centroids
using Pinot's K1 weight-limit rule.
+///
+/// Raw values are sorted in small batches; serialized centroids retain their
existing sorted order. Both are
+/// linearly merged with accumulated centroids. K1 preserves Pinot's existing
middle-quantile behavior, and the
+/// legacy verbose and small encodings preserve stored data and mixed-version
wire compatibility.
+///
+/// Serialized state keeps its first digest pending and allocates centroid
buffers only when another input must be
+/// merged or the digest is queried. Raw-value buffers remain unallocated
until a raw value is added.
+///
+/// Historical corrupted payloads remain opaque and byte-exact, with NaN
statistics. Their reported historical mass
+/// may be invalid; they cannot be mutated or mixed with another distribution.
Such an operation fails before
+/// changing aggregate mass, because neither invented statistics nor synthetic
NaN bytes are safe for old readers.
+///
+/// Instances are externally serialized per aggregation or group key and are
not safe for concurrent mutation.

Review Comment:
**[review] Eight shadow fields duplicate the stored `_metadata` record.**
`_min/_max/_compression/_mainCapacity/_bufferCapacity/_centroidOffset/_centroidSize/_totalWeight`
are re-copied from `_metadata` in `reset()` and must be re-synced whenever
`_metadata` is replaced (`inspectMetadata()` already has to remember
`_totalWeight`). A future path that swaps `_metadata` without re-syncing
produces a stale-extrema/weight bug that is invisible in review. Only
`_numCentroids` is genuinely independent (rewritten by `decode()`); the rest
could be reads of `_metadata.xxx()`.

Review Comment:
   **[review] Reimplements `TDigestUtils.weightedMean`.** This sign-aware
incremental mean with range clamping duplicates the public
`TDigestUtils.weightedMean(firstMean, firstWeight, secondMean, secondWeight,
totalWeight, sameSignMeans)` that this file already imports. If the production
formula is ever adjusted, the FIXED_VERBOSE benchmark input generator keeps the
stale copy and benchmark inputs silently stop matching production centroid
arithmetic.

Review Comment:
**[review] Post-test network fetches can fail the whole 2h unit-test job.**
This step (and `generate-rank-errors.sh`, which additionally does a `git fetch`
from github.com) downloads the tdunning jars from Maven Central at post-test
time under `set -euo pipefail`, without the `MAVEN_OPTS` retry/keep-alive
hardening (`retryHandler.count`, ttl, pool settings) every other Maven
invocation in `pinot_unit_tests.yml` sets — and the jars are no longer cached
as project dependencies since the PR removed them from the POM. A transient
Central/network hiccup fails testset 2 after all tests have passed. Suggest
passing the same MAVEN_OPTS and/or caching the two jars.

+/// Accumulates raw values and serialized TDigests into primitive centroids
using Pinot's K1 weight-limit rule.

**[review] Dead public API: `hasFractionalWeights()` has no callers anywhere
in the repo** (main, test, or perf — the `_hasFractionalWeights` field itself
is used internally by `maxSerializedByteSize()`). A public accessor on this
heavily-used class invites coupling to what is only a never-reset heuristic
flag; suggest dropping the getter and keeping the private field.

Review Comment:
**[review] SPI placement question: is `pinot-segment-spi` the right home?**
This is the only class in the new `segment.spi.customobject` package; nothing
else in pinot-segment-spi references it, and it cannot be constructed, merged
from bytes, or serialized without pinot-segment-local (`TDigestUtils`,
`PercentileTDigestAccumulator`) — several call sites must downcast to the
accumulator to work (`TDigestUtils.serialize` special-cases it, the value
aggregator casts `_finiteDigest`). Every consumer already depends on
segment-local, and the direct precedent for an in-house digest
(`QuantileDigest`) lives in `segment.local.customobject`. Placing it in SPI
mints a permanent public contract (including tdunning-mirroring methods like
`asSmallBytes`) that external implementors cannot actually satisfy; moving it
next to `QuantileDigest` would avoid that compatibility burden. If SPI
placement was requested for plugin visibility, consider slimming the abstract
contract to the digest operati
ons and keeping wire-encoding knowledge in `TDigestUtils`.
