Andrew Wang commented on HADOOP-13866:
--------------------------------------
I want the shading done because from past experience, the Netty bumps have been
very painful for our downstream users. In retrospect, I don't think we should
have been bumped commonly used dependencies like Netty that are also known to
be source/binary incompatible, particularly in minor releases. This also
applies to Jackson, Guava, PB, and other known offenders.
If someone wants this badly enough, they can also do the shading work to get it
into branch-2. I don't want a drive-by contribution that just changes the
version in a pom.xml without also doing the work to make the experience smooth
for our downstream users.
