Thanks [~yuzhih...@gmail.com] for doing more investigations. I also did similar 
investigations and got same conclusion that no evidence to show netty 4.1.x 
will break any backward compatibility toward 4.0.x. I think we should go 
forward to commit this patch without waiting for shading work especially we 
were using a beta version for netty before. As I mentioned above, we used to 
upgrade from Netty 3.x to 4.x in 2.7 release. Here, I don't see any problem to 
upgrade from 4.0.x to 4.1.x. 
2.8.0 cannot wait forever, and I don't want 2.8.0 (and ongoing branch-2) 
release cannot work with HBase 2.x towards.
If no one object, I will commit this patch (include 2.8.0) tomorrow.
