Contradiction in Hadoop Documentation
-------------------------------------
Key: HADOOP-7959
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-7959
Project: Hadoop Common
Issue Type: Bug
Components: documentation
Affects Versions: 1.0.0
Environment:
http://hadoop.apache.org/common/docs/current/api/org/apache/hadoop/util/Progressable.html
Reporter: Bryan Halfpap
Priority: Minor
http://hadoop.apache.org/common/docs/current/api/org/apache/hadoop/util/Progressable.html
The statement: "This is especially important for operations which take an
insignificant amount of time since, in-lieu of the reported progress, the
framework has to assume that an error has occured and time-out the operation."
in the aforementioned URL directly contradicts
http://hadoop.apache.org/common/docs/r0.20.2/mapred_tutorial.html#Reporter
which states: "where the application takes a significant amount of time to
process individual key/value pairs, this is crucial since the framework might
assume that the task has timed-out and kill that task."
The two statements should be reconciled in order to remove confusion.
