I've got a patch working. BUT... A pre-existing problem is that after the
connection header is sent, the client expects to be in sasl mode. When it gets
an RPC error, such as invalid rpc version or unsupported serialization, it
blows up trying to decode it as SASL. I think I am going to have to wrap the
SASL exchange with {{RpcRequestHeaderProto}} so the client can determine if the
response is a RPC or SASL protobuf.
