Hello,
I am new to Hadoop Common and this JIRA. While attending the Hadoop Summit in
San Jose last month, I spoke with Bobby Evans & Larry McCay about contributing
to the Hadoop community. I have limited coding skills but I do have a stronger
background in technical writing so Bobby suggested I work with the folks
associated with this JIRA to update of the Hadoop Tutorial associated with this
page to Hadoop 2.x. I'll undoubtably need the input and assistance of the
community to succeed in that undertaking, however, it's possible the additional
energy and focus I bring will help move the project forward.
I have some ideas on how I might update the introductory first module so with
your permission, I'll wade in with some edits, post them and see what people
think. The highest compliment you can pay me is to actually read what I post
and provide feedback. I think people will find I am very open to ideas and
respond well to criticism. I am also happy to work with the Google doc cited
below
In the meantime, Bobby provided me with instructions on how to build a web-site
out of the embedded documentation in the 2.x Hadoop build using the mvn site
command. That command is resulting in persistent BUILD FAILUREs. I doubt this
is the right place to post a request for help with those issues, but I was
hoping someone could point me to the proper venue in which I can seek
assistance.
By way of introduction, I live in the foothills above Boulder, CO with my wife
of 27 years, our 17 year old granddaughter (she let's us live with her ;-), and
Kassidy our not so dainty 90 lb chocolate lab. I've worked for EMC as a Sales
Engineer for about 10 years and currently have an Alliances role supporting
Accenture North America. We used to live in the Bay Area and in my SE role I've
worked with Cisco, Yahoo, Google and Facebook in the past.
