We just re-committed HADOOP-9652, so we could try and get these two into
2.1-beta.
However, I agree with Colin; without full support from all the HDFS-related
FileSystems, symlinks are essentially broken. I don't want users to download
our "stable" 2.1.0 release, play with the shiny new FileSystem symlink
commands, and then be unable to copy files between clusters or use webhdfs
(serious because it breaks backups and upgrades). We've also been uncovering
bugs with just preliminary testing.
2.3 seems like a more plausible release. We're definitely going to revisit
these outstanding issues, but not in time for 2.1.
