As Roman says, Bigtop has pretty much taken over the creation of .rpm and .deb
for the hadoop stack. They not only do the generation, but the init.d scripts
and the tests.
I don't see any enthusiasm for generating RPMs in hadoop which aren't
consistent with those, don't add much and won't be part of the testing
-especially as redhat themselves are using the bigtop artifacts.
If there's something missing from the bigtop build, I'm sure they'd be welcome
to your patches
