Eric Yang commented on HADOOP-10772:
------------------------------------

Prefix directory is probably better default to either /usr/lib/hadoop or
/opt/apache/hadoop. Service users may need to also include useradd command in
pre-install or post-uninstall script to ensure existence of hdfs and mapreduce
users.

Bigtop only supports one architecture (x86_64), and it provides a stack of
software. However, it make integration challenging, if the components are
swapped out to support other architecture. There are some projects that can
swap out either HDFS or mapreduce framework. This ensures that Hadoop packages
can work in modified environment.

If someone search for "hadoop rpm" on Google, Bigtop is not visible in the
first 2 pages of search results. There is a need of standalone hadoop rpm, but
it has not been voiced in the development community. I support the effort to
develop this.
