Chris Nauroth updated HADOOP-11464:
-----------------------------------
    Attachment: HADOOP-11464.001.patch

I have attached patches for branch-2 and trunk. For branch-2, this is just a
matter of restoring some old code that had existed previously. For trunk, this
is new code attempting to stick more to the style of the new shell script
rewrite.

I have tested this by running commands through all relevant entry (hadoop,
hdfs, yarn and mapreduce). I ran HDFS commands, word count jobs, streaming
jobs, created har files (to make sure TOOL_PATH was covered), listed MR jobs
and listed YARN applications. This worked successfully on Windows/Cygwin and
Mac for both the trunk and branch-2 versions.

> Reinstate support for launching Hadoop processes on Windows using Cygwin.

> The Windows compatibility work removed the dependency on Cygwin as a
> compatibility layer. However, some users may still wish to run Cygwin on a
> personal machine for running Hadoop commands that interact with a cluster.
> This issue proposes to reinstate support for launching Hadoop processes on
> Windows using Cygwin to call the bash scripts.
