We need to be careful here. HADOOP_HOME is *only* supported on Windows.
Support for HADOOP_HOME on UNIX was deprecated in 0.21 in favor of
HADOOP_PREFIX during the project split. I've got another JIRA hanging around
which undoes that terrible mistake; it brings back HADOOP_HOME as official and
deprecates HADOOP_PREFIX.
