Can you remind me why you don't just svn copy the sources you need from
these components into commons-vfs?

Depending on external snapshots in a release is bad because it makes it
impossible to reproduce later. The above is entirely reproducible, and
maintainable. You just need to ensure any bugs you fix get merged to the
main sources, and they can be earmarked for removal in 1.1 when the
others are released.
