if you do want to volunteer, a good place to start would be by creating the release notes. this means going through the cvs log and analysing all the comments made since the last release. the good news is that there is already quite a lot in the release notes so you'll be able to follow the pattern and just look for any missing comments.

I believe you: I fully expect to run into problems when following the release instructions. When I do, I will post them and we'll figure out the best solution.

I volunteered to be the release manager because the committers on that
project are all busy, requested help, and I'd like the experience of
being a release manager.  If it doesn't work out, I'm obviously willing
to let someone else do it ;)
