Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any way of fixing this. The only way of 
distinguishing form fields from file upload fields is that the latter have a 
file name associated with them. In the case you are seeing, where the item is 
empty (but still being submitted anyway???), no file name is provided, and so 
the field is assumed to be a form field.

If somebody knows of an alternative, more reliable, way of distinguishing 
between the two types of fields, I'll be happy to make the change. In the 
meantime, however, I'm going to mark this as WONTFIX (since INVALID is a little 
harsh ;).
