> How has bugzilla been an impediment?

A lot of people have complained about the performance. Many people have
said that they do not like working with it, and don't. No one has wanted to
invest the effort in bugzilla.

Be that as it may, using Jira is a choice.

Others have given some examples of why, but basically Jira benefits us by
providing a vastly better platform for managing our software projects.
Which, interestingly enough, provides the core for Jira.

Note that Atlassian is not some corporate giant. They are tiny company
making a living by building a fine product on top of Open Source components.

No, there is relatively little effort that we need to put into migration.
Atlassian has put in an effort, but it isn't much for us on our end. So
that means that we can invest our effort in our own OSS offerings. Which is
kind of the point. :-)

I certainly encourage anyone who wants to join scarab.tigris.org to do so.

> Couldn't the same amount of effort be spent improving our current system?

In the past two years, no one has wanted to do so. It would be a weak
statement to say that none of the people involved in dealing with bugzilla
have expressed any interest in maintaining it.

Then perhaps you might smile in delight at the achievement that a handful of
people are able to support their families with a good idea, good
implementation, and active support built on top of that work. Which is just
what the ASF license is designed to allow.
