The BCEL projects page has a number of references to Java optimization
projects, which include a few profilers and instrumentation tools as
well as a specific heap profiler. Closer examination is still pending.
There is also JProf, as already mentioned (perhaps multiple different
projects), and occasionally there are mirrors of a GPL'd JProfiler,
which is quite good and not the JProfiler from ej-technologies (but
maybe a predecessor). I can put it into my home on cvs if necessary.
More careful digging through sourceforge and freshmeat may turn up
additional stuff.
What about a Wiki page for this kind of stuff? I can leave my
recherche results there...
