It is inside the egg directory if I understand correctly. At Rtree 0.5, we were building libspatialindex_c.dylib as part of the Python extensions, but with Rtree 0.6, we will be moving that into libspatialindex proper, which means Python users won't have any hassle. The transition there is a little bumpy right now, unfortunately.
