1st IJCAI workshop on Environmental Decision Support Systems (EDSS'2003)
           http://www.lsi.upc.es/~webia/besai/edss2003.html
                              within the

18th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence
                             (IJCAI'2003)
                  August 09-15, 2003. Acapulco, Mxico

Contributions are invited from all members of the AI community working
on any Environmental field showing how AI approaches can be useful to
solve problems in environmental systems. New or improved techniques or
methods, as well as innovative applications are welcome.
Papers emphasising integration of various technologies or paradigms are
particularly welcome, including (but not restricted to) machine
learning, data mining, knowledge-based systems, case-based reasoning,
soft computing, qualitative reasoning, spatial and temporal reasoning,
planning, real-time intervention systems, decision-support systems, and
multiagent systems.
Application areas may be related to whatever Environmental field such as
marine pollution, water management, waste management, air pollution,
meteorological prediction, forest and land management,
environmental-process supervision, biodiversity, ecological-system
modelling and simulation, environmental-crime detection, environmental
data mining, environmental impact assessment, global climatic change,
natural resource management, remote sensing, or system ecology.
All workshop participants must register both for the IJCAI main
conference and the workshop itself, and the number of participants will
be limited.
Authors planning to submit a contribution must contact the Workshop
Committee by e-mail as soon as possible. A provisional title and short
abstract must be provided, and the description of ongoing research
projects as well as real-world applications in which the authors are
involved will be very appreciated.
Authors should send an electronic version by e-mail (Word document, PDF
file or Unix compatible Postscript file) of their original manuscript to
the Workshop Committee by February 22, 2003. Each manuscript should
include an abstract of no more than 150 words and should include a list
of no more than five keywords. Suggested format style is the same as for
the main IJCAI'03 conference. See instructions at
http://www.ijcai-03.org/1024/html/entrada.html
Each manuscript will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 reviewers. The
reviewers may be selected from the contributors.

In addition to the workshop notes, papers based on workshop submissions
may be published as a book or special issue of a journal. Selected
authors will have the opportunity to revise and extend their
contributions.

Notification of provisional acceptance will be sent prior to March 21,
2003. Final camera-ready manuscripts, revised according to the
suggestions of the reviewers, must be received by the Workshop Committee
no later than May 23, 2003.
