Hello Olutayo Boyinbode,

mobile devices are a very wide spectrum of very different devices. Do you have some devices in special in mind (iPhones, Android, Blackberrys, regular mobile phones, ...)?

iOS devices are a little special because they support only a very limited number of codecs, and Matterhorn does not support any of these codecs out of the box (because of patent issues). But it is quite easy to configure Matterhorn with h.264 support:
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Create+a+Custom+Encoding+Profile+%28Trunk%29
Currently you don't even need to recompile ffmpeg, because the 3rd-party-tools installer enables h.264 already.

The second problem for iPhones is that they have severe problems with the Jetty that Matterhorn uses by default. So you will need to use an apache server or a Lighttpd to deliver the downloadable videos:
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/lighttpd+%28trunk%29

And now to the feeds. You can create custom feeds that contain only the videos that you would like to serve:
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Configure+Atom+and+RSS+Feeds+%28Trunk%29

If you only want to support recent Android devices (version 2.1+) you can simply install flash there and use the matterhorn engage player. depending an the speed of your android device this works quite fine.

My colleague Markus and some students here are currently investigating the possibilities of the new Adobe Flex version and it seems that it will be quite easy to develop native mobile versions of Matterhorn with not too much afford:

I hope in all of these links you will find at least some of the information that you are looking for.

Dear community,

I am a PhD student at University of Cape Town, South Africa. A pilot study for Opencast Matterhorn has started at this institution.

My work is trying to expose lectures recordings from Opencast Matterhorn to different mobile devices to allow student have access to these recordings on the move.

I tried uploading these opencast artefacts from the media server through atom feeds to my mobile device. I discovered that only file format M4v is being loaded from the server which can not be displayed on my mobile devices. How can I upload other file formats directly from Matterhorn?

Also the atom feed was only able to display 10 entries at once on the mobile device. How can I increase the no of entries for the feed?

Please I want to know who can assist me in solving these issues urgently.

Thank you.

Olutayo
