Ken, I, for one, am not willing to jump to such rash conclusions as you on this biochar subject. I think that the piece offered by Kane takes a sound approach to this relatively new technology. It suggests that pyrolysis, and subsequent biochar byproduct, MAY have useful applications, dependent on site specific conditions and situations, and the type of feedstocks. It is relatively new on the scene. There are a number of researchers, public and private, around the globe spending time in research on its viability as per energy production, carbon sequestration, and agriculture enhancement...trying to fill the "knowledge gap", as the Fact Sheet so correctly puts it.
If we stopped learning and trying new things, I suspect that we would miss valuable knowledge and tools in creating a more sustainable way of living. Use crop reside and manure to make biochar which takes thousands of years to break down. I am not interested in it for farming and will await a response from a farmer if one ever uses it. Look at the energy it takes to make the stuff even out of non-farm waste. Composting is the way to go. Some people who want to become famous are using biochar to get their name before the world just like Al Gore and his sky-is-falling talk. There is plenty of proof he and biochar fans are wrong if one is seeking Truth. Ken Hargesheimer -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
