Pickle, Mark, and Gamba: Many thanks for your advice. ResEdit did the job. Downloaded a new copy from ResExcellence on my iMac 600 with cdrw but no floppy, wrote it to a cd, from cd to diskette on an older Power Mac(that i bought 2 days ago), then finally to the SE/30 and visibility. (I had almost modernized myself out of the ability to deal with the problem at all.) Turns out that there was a copy of ResEdit on the System Folder. Yup, invisible!
