>I simply wanted to go some way to protecting unaware users from >the serious damage this can cause. >
I read my mail rather late last night and became quite despondent. Jeff pretty much summarized my thoughts and I won't beat a dead horse, but consider this: The best way to protect unaware users from the evils of Mode 32 1.2 is to promote LEM and THIS LIST, not to make suggestions to a major university regarding a directory they have allowed to exist for years. The language chosen was most unfortunate. "Out-dated and potentially damaging" in the minds of people on the cutting edge of technology could well apply to the whole directory. While one of us would take notice of something like this on one of our websites, does anyone really believe that a university would bother to replace one outdated extension with another outdated extension? Once made aware of a potential liability associated with this directory, the best we can hope for is that they will ignore it and do nothing. I don't want to berate Mark for this, though, and hope that no one else does. I'm sure he already feels bad enough. We all make mistakes. That's just human. Let's just make sure that we learn from this one so that no one else repeats it someday.
