I am having a problem which I hope someone on this list can help me with. I have a Performa 550 that won�t boot anymore. When I turn it on, I hear the hard disk spinning, I hear the normal chime, and the screen comes on totally blank except for the mouse pointer, I can move the mouse and the pointer moves, but otherwise it is dead.
My first thought was the hard drive was bad, so I tried to boot from a cd, but the same thing happened. I tried then to boot from a floppy disk, same thing. I couldn�t even get a light on the front to show the cd or floppy was spinning. Now I have a cd and a floppy disk stuck in the computer. Next I thought, replace the battery and zap the pram.
