I have two of those, and a cable that goes between them. Aren't they just for 
Localtalk? The larger hole in the centre of the socket has a matching plastic 
pin on the cable (so you can't connect it upside down, or something).

I don't know what part numbers mine are though, but if I connect them in the 
order "Mac -> thingy -> funny cable -> thingy -> Mac" I seem to have a 
network. I've never really thaught about it much.

I am vaguely annoyed at only having enough bits to connect two Macs together 
like that. It's daft, because I can do that with an ordinary printer cable.

Well. If anyone can shed some light on this I am interested too.
