> WHAAAAAAAAAT? The CC tube is a Trinitron, and vertically flat. The other

Hmm ...curious.

Well, that may be the "specs" ...however, at the moment I have the two
varieties of machines sitting right next to me (actually, two of each kind,
two CC's, an SE, and an SE/30). So this is what I *see*:

The exterior glass of the CC tube describes an *arc* (i.e., a "C" shape that
raises from left and right side to a high point in the center) that is quite
obviously prominent along the horizontal X-Z axis, creating a distortion in
viewing perspective.

The b/w tube is more like a gentle *bubble* (i.e., it is raised somewhat in
the center) from each of the corners; and the overall "lift" is certainly
less.

Turning both systems on reveals the same - quite obvious - difference in
viewer perspective: the CC tube shows an arc, and the b/w appears flatter.

I never really looked at the specs before, so I'm at a loss as to what
they're referring to ...if they say the Sony tube is "vertically" flat, I'd
have to assume the reference is to the X-Y top-to-bottom curvature, which
does appear "flat" ...but that perspective is certainly overshadowed by the
left-to-middle-to-right arc of the tube.

Additionally, upon close examination of the CC case, the arc is equally
evident by examining the plastic of the bezel area, which "hugs" the tube
with little-to-no apparent gap across the entire curvature of the surface of
the tube. But the border plastic is measurably thicker in the middle
(approx. 50-60mm) then on the edges (approx 80-90mm) ...i.e., the tube
describes an arc.

I've also noted this distortion of perspective in the older Sony Trinitron
tubes used in stand-alone monitors (the 13" Sony, for instance ...though I
don't have one handy to actually measure this).
