I thought the answer might have general interest ...to beginners ;o) at
least.

I'm using an LC575 board, with the board mod to enable onboard 512x384
display (far easier then the 640x480 mod IMHO). I picked up an Apple PPC
Upgrade card on eBay (I've been keeping my eyes open ever since for a
reasonably priced second).

eBay's pretty hit-and-miss on these sorts of things ...but I don't think
there's any alternative that's any better.

It was entirely easy to pull the 68040, put that in the PPC Upgrade card (it
has a blank socket for it), and then put the PPC Upgrade card in the now
vacant CPU slot ...and slide the board back in the CC.

At first boot, the CC boots as a stock 575 (well, it boots to whatever it
was booting to, off the '040). You enable the Apple PPC Upgrade control
panel, and when you reboot, you hear the sing-song of the PPC boot, and
that's it.

HTH
