The same kind of thing happened to the word "font". To a printer or
typesetter, a font was one particular typeface in one size. Thus Times 12
point was one font and Times 18 point was another font. But on computers,
now a font means all the point sizes of a particular typeface.

The new definition has taken over the old one, which often happens in a
language. I'd give a million more examples but I'm far enough off-topic as
it is : )
