That's why I put the old driver on the performa as well.  And if somehow
that had failed, the disk wouldn't have even been seen as bootable, so I
didn't think that was the problem.  In any case, I still don't know
what the problem was but it works now.  Gotta love macs.  Just poke at
them and they end up working.
