Doing computer support has convinced me that most people really don't do a lot with their computers. They mainly use them for email, web browsing, word processing and maybe fiddling around with images if they have a digital camera. I can do all that with a IIci. (And to keep it on topic, I could probably do it with the SE/30, if I ever get a chance to tackle the horizontal screen lines problem!) One of the things that amazes me with these old Macs is how much you can do with them. You have to get people to move beyond the idea that they need to have the latest, fastest thing and have them actually play around with these for a bit. It's also a lot of fun to mess around with a computer that didn't cost much--you can do things that you wouldn't do if you paid thousands for it. Hook a half dozen up and have each one do a single task. Or really hack into one and make a Takky or Mystic. Paint the case red, or purple or even make it look like a rock. This stuff should be fun and we should be using computers for what we want. Leave the work at the office, stop worrying about your ability to sync with MS Office. Of course, I'm preaching to the already converted here *grin*! -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
