The latter is far more likely to work than the former.  Getting your hands
on such a monitor, with the DB-9 connector already on it, is usually as
simple as asking around a few places to see if they're throwing any out.
Try local educational institutions.  If Vern were local to my area, I could
tell him of a large pile of these sitting out waiting to be disposed of...
