I'm running 6.1 on mine.  I tend to run 6.1 or 7.1 on my machines,
following the advice of the LEM site.  What I've found is that system 6 is
as fast as advertised.  7.1 is a good OS too.  It's also relatively quick.
I've got machines with 7.5.5 and 7.6.1 on them and they are much slower.
The OS uses up a lot more RAM and takes longer to boot.  My observation is
to upgrade only if the machine or a needed program needs 7.5.5.

There is a "windowshade" program on the System 6 Heaven site.  Haven't
played around with it yet, but might be worth taking a look at.
