It turns out my brother had a Farallon PhoneNet adapter (actually, lots of them) all along, with a modem/printer port plug at one end and a phone jack (RJ11) at the other. And he has a phone plug to serial plug cord that can plug into the PhoneNet adapter. So I could plug one end into the SE and the other into my PowerBook. The problem is that I can't connect the SE to the network like this, and I need to use this software called LocalTalk Bridge (not EtherNet Bridge, which I haven't heard of) to use it, and LocalTalk Bridge is OS 9 only when my PowerBook runs OS X.
So is there a different PhoneNet adapter, and EtherNet Bridge software that works in OS X somewhere? > With a PhoneNet adapter and EtherNet Bridge (free > software) about $5 -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
