iCab is much slower than NN2.
Any graphics capable browser is slower than NN2.
iCab's slowness is the penatly one pays for the the things that it can do
that NN2 can't.
Since you have 1 bit video you might as well disable the automatic loading
of images. That will speed it up a lot. You always have the option of
selectively loading images after the page loads.

Another speed up trick (for any browser) is to use a Ram Disk for browser
cache. I use AppDisk 1.6.1, set to dump contents at Quit.
Using a Ram disk cuts down on HD accesses and makes for quieter as well
faster browsing.

There's some tweaks in iCab Preferences that will speed it up a little bit.
For instance, turn off the Error reporting function.

iCab has a video bug on B&W Macs.
The default preferences will cause portions of some web pages to be blacked
out.
The fix is to uncheck the box for "Use colors defined by page".

That memory bar will quickly fill up if you visit commercial sites or just
browse for a long time.

Not that I know of.
AFAIK OT negotiates the speed with the other modem.
It may change on your future dialups.
