I wonder if FreePPP is like ConfigPPP as regards the actual connect speed being one half of what shows in the control panel. Back when I used ConfigPPP I always had to set it to 57.6 to get an actual connect speed of 28.8 (which btw and fwiw is the fastest speed that the POTS lines support in this neighbohood).
