Every one of my Compacts gets a monthly, or thereabouts, workout. I've got the email program on the Plus, MYOB on the SE, along with a wad of games, The Classic's got Word and Excel with games, my Classic II has Claris Works, HyperStudio, Internet Explorer 2.0 and Eudora 1.3.1, The SE/30 with it's slow-starting 1.2 gig Fujitsu hard drive, gets MS Works, FileMaker 2, Excel, MYOB, A host of utilities, antivirus, and Internet Explorer 3. something with it's own email program. This one's got the 40Mhz. CPU from a dead and long-gone IIFx in it's socketed motherboard and benches at about 10% faster, unclocked, than a stock SE/30.
There are more, but I'll leave it at this, for now. There's no doubt in my mind that these Macs are STILL extremely productive, lacking only modern internet speed and color capability. But their prices, as found in local thrift stores make them worth their weight in gold for computing alternatives for the young and low-income families, for a first computer. I keep myself very busy saving them wherever I find them. Bringing them home, and cleaning them up and repairing them, where afterwards, they go to those I've mentioned above, at a price that lets me drive about and find more.
