it's normal for any crt based monitor, some more than others but that's why they usually come set to have blank space around the edges, because the closer you get to the edge the worse the distortion is. everything but the single center pixel is distorted, proportionate to how far it is from center, it's just the nature of the technology. monitors with flatter faces are somewhat better, but it's not just from the shape of the glass, and some monitors have better circuits to compensate than others, but there are limits particularly very close to the edge. lcd monitors of course don't have this problem, but they do actually have others (mostly that they can't really multisync the way a crt monitor can).
