Maintenance cost? I have never brought any compact Mac to a repair shop. I don't think I ever will. If something is broke, I will do my best to fix it myself. That is part of the hobby. If the power supply of my Mac Plus fails I will try and repair it myself or otherwise grab another Mac Plus from my stock. I won't deny I spend money on this hobby. Any hobby costs time and money (and time is money). If you wanna have stuff to play with you often have to pay for it. Of course I get stuff for free too, but sometimes there is stuff I wanna buy because I like to experiment with it or because I think it looks beautiful. Last saturday I bought lotsa stuff, including some external diskette drives. One of them was a 800 k disk drive I really fancied because it looked a bit different (nicer actually) than the diskette drives I already had. It was a bit flatter, had no LED, and didn't have the Mac II/SE style design. Another purchase was a asante ensc. I had great fun with that device. It allowed me for the first time to connect the Plus to the iMac running OS X. I managed to create a 800 k startup disk with the right system software to allow a appletalk connection over ethernet and share stuff. This wasn't easy and involved first installing a minimal system on a hard disk and than copying that to a diskette.
