Until recently, my immediate answer would have been: "Go to your local
RadioShack." However the shops, at least in my area, have stopped stocking
the tools and parts inventory that was RadioShack's forte in the days of
the TRS-80. :-( Still, their online catalog does list a 15-watt,
grounded-tip soldering pencil (Cat. # 64-2051) for $7.99 as available in
stores, so you might try calling around. RadioShack also stocks desoldering
braid, desoldering tools, and no-lead, rosin core solder.

Good luck in your search.

P.S. I am not trolling to start a debate on the merits, demerits,
advantages, or disadvantages of RadioShack. They may not be perfect, but
they are ubiquitous in the U.S., so they merit consideration.

No matter how paranoid you are, it isn't paranoid enough.
