An "X" is the Macs way of telling you there's no readable boot sector on
the disk,
or the floppy drive is bad or dusty. When you copie the disk image of 6.0.8
did you
convert it with Stuffit and DiskCopy 6.33?

Otherwise, look to bad or dirty drives.
