Hi Phil, That's what I thought -- you haven't actually tried it. I have no problem with the HD20 on a stock 512K, using the HD20 init on the boot floppy. As you note, there's a lot of information out there suggesting that the HD20 will work with the 128K mac. As far as I've been able to determine though, the info comes from people who haven't actually tried it. I have, and from my limited testing, it appears that 128K is simply not enough for the HD driver, video, audio, floppy disk speed info and system stuff to reside all together in RAM. I have yet to find anyone produce a counterexample. That's why I was so curious about your original posting -- it seemed to imply that you had a 128K working with an HD20.
