You can of course always plug in a valid IP in the range of the DHCP
addresses that is not likely to be assigned automatically to another
device on your network--e.g., something high up in the address range
(x.x.x.200-x.x.x.254). You would also need to assign DNS and gateway
values since this info will also not be provided automatically.

This is how I did it with my SE/30 and MacTCP.
