Hence my last point on the probability that it's the SCSI drive and not Silverlining, though I don't give heavy weight to that probability. The Mac Plus showed Silverlining's start-up box and it did access the drive upon start up, but then it froze with the Silverlining 5.8.3 box still showing in the lower right of the screen, where it's supposed to be. After a few mouse clicks, the Mac went to a Sad Mac. I switched off, disconnected the drive, switched on, and restarted with a System Update 6.0.4/RAMdisk start-up floppy and everything was fine. I only have the internatl floppy though, and I need to connect a hard drive to make my quiet Mac useful for writing the sequel to The Lord of the Rings, which I hope to finish this year.
