Hi,

You have come to the right place. The LC575 is basically the fastest
stock Mac that this list supports so you get the joy of running pretty
much all the software we discuss and more.

System 7.1 is a great operating system and although your Mac will run
up to system 8 I won't really recommend that move unless you *really*
need it for something. System 7.1 gives you fairly good compatibility
with old apps while still giving you the best speed with the most free
memory and hard disk space.

The LC575 can almost any older word processor you want to use. With
something like ClarisWorks, Microsoft Works, or similar "integrated"
products you can do graphics, documents, spreadsheets and database. It
also makes a great game machine and should handle most classic CD-ROM
adventure games like Myst, The Seventh Guest, Return to Zork, Gadget,
and many many many others. (check eBay)

While many of us on this list will get on the internet with an 8 or 16
MHz machine it is mostly a novelty. The LC575 would be far too slow
for any intense web-browsing. Java, Flash, Shockwave, and any newer
animation standard will either be not supported or run so slowly that
you will want to slide the computer out a 2nd story window. ;) If you
want some light HTML-only web surfing then you may be happy with it,
but for intense browsing, get a newer PowerPC Mac.

Hope this helps,

Matt
