>might I suggest using Open Transport/PPP instead? Actually, that's what I'd prefer to use. But it doesn't let me change the connect speed for my 56k modem and I was unable to find a script that would reduce it to 28.8 or even 33.6. I've tried the script generator program, and either I failed at that or it doesn't work either.
This same setup (FreePPP and OT (not sure if the version from 7.6.1)) has worked flawlessly in my Powerbook for over a year now, and aside from the past few days has worked flawlessly on my SE/30. It appears to be working fine again now and am wondering if my ISP was less than honest with me (though the G4 worked fine during the time of my problems.). I'm sure it's in the FAQ, but will OT/PPP even run with System 7.1? I thought it required 7.5.5 and up. Since the time I got this machine on line, I've aquired a Global Village 28.8 modem; I could switch over to OT/PPP and use that modem. I haven't thus far because the current setup has been working. If problems persist, I may check into that option. Thanks for the advice, J White Buy American S.O.S. Save Our Steel -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
