I'm not sure that this fits your bill, but I just discovered that Big
Picture will play quicktime movies on my Color Classic running System 7.1.
It's the only app that I've found so far that can play them. It also does
an excellent jpeg slideshow.

Although it is very slow, the jpeg slideshow does not blackout between
frames, it wipes from one to the other. And the movies are godawful slow,
but they do display.
