Hi Folks, I just got a Mac Plus 1mb configuration with a Jasmine Backpac 20mb hard drive attached. Has anyone seen one of these before? They are quite unusual, and the drive makes the same kind of clunking sound that the original 20mb hard drive made inside the Mac SE back in the day.
So I turned it on and it works quite well, makes a small whirring sound in the back of the computer. Quieter than the SE with it's internal cooling fan. The hard drive was formatted in 1989, according to Get Info, and the original Jasmine Control Panel was there along with the Jasmine StartUpScreen. Running system 6.0.5 which I do not have a copy of. Used to have 6.0.7 on 800k disks until I threw away a bunch of disks last year. Now all I have is 6.0.3. So I was trying to network the Plus to my SE/30 running 7.1 so I could save some of the larger programs on it that wouldn't fit on an 800k floppy. But I was unable to get the Plus to show up on the SE/30's chooser. The SE/30 would show up on the Plus's chooser but it told me that not all the software was installed to do that sort of thing. Before I even saw the SE/30 show up, I had to install Appleshare. So after that failed, I tried installing network software from OS7. Using this crashed the machine! So I gave up and saved as much as I could on floppies, and deleted the rest. I have now formatted the hard drive with Silverlining and will install 6.0.3 as soon as I can find a replacement mouse. This one is really worn out and getting worse with use. Anyone have or know someone who has a Jasmine Backpac drive? I took it off to see how it hooked up - genius really. But I am missing the battery door now... I put it back on. Looks nice anyway. The other question is, this Energizer 4.5v battery looks pretty old and I would like to replace it. Where can I find one?
