Dear Compact Mac list, I have an issue that I want to ask the expertise on this list about. How can one unstuff Stuffit 5 files on a 68000 based mac? Stuffit 4 is incompatible with Stuffit 5 stuff, and Stuffit 5 requires a 68020 or better AFAIK. On my SE/30 running Sytem 7.01 I used the 7.5 boot disk trick to install stuff it 5, but, that trick doesn't work on a 68000 I think. Does it work, I never tried it. I later upgraded to 7.1.1 on my SE/30 so I wouldn't have to use the 7.5 boot disk trick. There has got to be some way to unstuff stuffit 5 files on a 68000!
Separate issue, I am really starting to have trouble transferring files onto my SE. My PC floppy drive sucks, it only works half the time, I think the controller is going or something because I have tried two different floppy drives with no success. I can't use my modern mac either since it has no floppy drive and no easy way to network between it and the SE. I really need a better way to get files onto my macs. How do you guys copy files onto your compact macs? Is there a better way to connect a PC or modern mac to an SE than sneakernet? Ethernet seems to be the obvious answer but I don't have an ethernet card for any of my compact macs, and unless I can find one cheaply (ebay nics are always too expensive) I really don't want to go that route.
