Hi, compacters!

Perhaps this is a bit off-topic. If it is, please tell me so.

In the last time, I've been trying to emulate a 68030 Mac inside my Windoze
box, in order to run StuffIt 5 and being able to convert software stored in
that format into a form readable by my little Classic. I have tried two
different Macintosh emulators for Windows, with different results.

Executor 2.11 runs fine, but it only emulates a "superset" of System 6
(System 6 with a small quantity of enhancements from System 7). And since
it uses its own OS (it does not use Apple's MacOS), it doesn't provide some
undocumented system calls, and thus many apps fail to run inside it
(StuffIt 5 between them). And there is another difficulty: it's shareware,
and I don't want to pay a cent for a thing that works only sometimes.

The other option I know is Basilisk II, a portable Mac emulator that has
Linux/Unix/*nix, BeOS and Win32 ports. This emulator seems to be good. It
does emulate a complete Mac at the hardware level (it requires a ROM file
and a set of OS setup disks or a HFV volume with MacOS inside it), and they
say that it runs almost everything. But I have a problem. Since it needs a
ROM image file, the only one I own is my Classic's one. I have dumped it to
a file, copied it to the PC via a 1.44 Mb disk, and found that Basilisk II
doesn't like it :-( . When i select it, Basilisk says that the Classic
emulation is currently broken (not implemented?).

Does anybody know where can I find a Color Classic ROM image? I think Apple
won't like the answer to this question, so please reply in private. If
somebody with a Color Classic want to make the ROM image but doesn't have
the tool, I can provide him with the program I used to dump my Classic's
ROM. Is there another good free emulator for Windoze I don't currently
know? It should be able to emulate at least a 68030, but I bet all
emulators can nowadays run 68040 code without trouble...

Greetings and thank you in advance,

Antonio Rodrguez (Grijan)
