Can anyone answer this SE/30 Maximum HD size question with authority? A little voice in the back of my head is whispering about a 2GB limit (possibly an OS-driven HFS issue?). I've been looking for a bigger drive for my much-loved but ancient SE/30, currently wheezing along with a 500MB drive, and I'm having a hard time finding a decent 2GB SCSI up here in Victoria BC.
I had this issue when I upgraded my LC580's 750 MB drive to a 4 GB drive. I zero formatted the drive, installed the OS and when I went to reboot flashing question mark. You are correct about the 2 GB limit on HFS for booting. My fix was to reformat the drive into 2 GB partitions and reinstalled the OS into the first partition. Worked like a charm. Apple's Disk Utility will let you have up to 16 partitions I believe, so in theory you could install up to a 32GB drive, but what a cluttered desktop that would be. A better alternative would be to have a reasonable size internal 4 or 6 GB and then have a larger external SCSI. Hope this helps.
