But the ROM has to look for a System Folder in the disk. If the ROM supports HFS only, how can it boot from a system folder located in an HFS+ partition/disk? In effect, the page linked by Gamba says that System 7.5.2 increases the limit in Macintoshes shipped with at least that System version, and in Macintoshes with PCI slots, probably because it adds HFS+ support. I suppose that this is because the ROM must support HFS+ in order to boot from a disk greater than 2 Gb. I also think that if you have a pre-7.5.2 Macintosh with a boot disk smaller than 2 Gb and System 7.5.2 (or later) installed on it, you can use a *secondary* disk greater than 2 Gb: you have HFS+ support on the OS, but not on the ROM, so you can't boot from the larger disk even if you can use it when the system is up. Can anyone confirm this? About the 4 Gb limit the above page (good link, Gamba!) says that some modified versions of the System (it doesn't says which ones) can handle HFS partitions up to 4 Gb. But I think that for most systems, HFS's practical limit is 2 Gb per partition. Hope this can help to solve the question :-) .
